Visible Horizons

Some members of IMCA have become involved with Visible Horizons, a not-for-profit organization for the empowerment of Native American youth- Among the many program objectives, they provide native American youth with individualized tutoring and mentoring for scholastic performance and improvement of self-worth.

An opportunity has come up to drive and chaperone eight teenage youth from Visible Horizons to the 5th annual Native Vision Sports and Life Skills Camp. This will be the first year that visible Horizons will be able to send their children to participate in this event. The camp will be held, June 9 to 11, on White Mountain Apache Reservation in Arizona. As many as 30 professional and collegiate athletes will be providing instruction in football, soccer, basketball, volleyball and running.

These athletes not only instruct young players on the fundamentals of sports, but also share stories of personal hardship, courage, and victory. In addition, Native leaders who take part encourage the high school students to become better citizens, to respect their elders, and to take pride in their Indian identity.
