Two Days In Pinon by Pam Wilson
A trip to Pinon, Arizona, for two days? Why would you want to drive all That way to stay such a short time? What can you possibly do in just two days?
You can feel the love of the children as they greet you and ask if you've brought pickles. You can see the excitement in their faces as they ask if you came to have Bible school for them. You can feel your heart melt as they hug you and won't let go, or when they present you with the most beautiful necklace you'll treasure because they bought it with their own quarter. You can feel your heart ache as you listen to a sister while she shares the burdens on her heart. You can feel your heart break as you pray with a brother who has gone the ways of the world and admits his shame but cannot turn his life around. You can feel the power of the saints during the prayer service and feel the humility in the prayers of your brothers and sisters even though they pray in their native tongue. You can share in the special prayer service as a dear brother calls on the elders for a blessing, and again witness the blessing of a young child as his grandmother kneels in prayer before him. You can fellowship with all of your native brothers and sisters that have become a part of your family. You can bask in the Spirit and recognize the privilege that is yours of even being allowed on the reservation. You can marvel at the beauty of the sunset on the desert and feel the presence of the Creator and give thanks for being part of this precious gospel. These are .just a few of the things you can do in two days.
There have been three of these two day camps held for the Navajo this year. Each one was in a different location but the children and adults came from all over to participate in the camps. Each camp had different IMCA members doing the classes, crafts, services, etc. but the camps carried the same spirit of love. Plans are already being made for next summer's camps.
