Missionary Outreach On Navajo by Milford Ulrey
In a recent three week visit to Pinon, Arizona, Brother Hugh Caldwell and I were invited into the homes of Navajo families to do in home ministry. We had been invited into many different homes of both member and non-member Navajo families; to answer their questions about the church, to introduce the Book of Mormon and to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We found that the Spirit of God had proceeded us and had prepared the hearts of those we visited. Those that we talked to readily accepted the Gospel into their hearts. The Book of Mormon could only be touched on briefly since we had so many homes to visit. More in depth explanations will be given in follow-up meetings on our next trip. There was much interest in the minds of the people we visited, about their ancestors and about Christ's dealings with them in these the Americas.
Brothers Richard Hensley, Ron Wilson and Robert McFarland came out to Pinon, mid way in our three week visit, to do the funeral for Alphonso Nez who passed away. On Sunday they opened up the little church in Old Cedar village for a Sunday service. The sacrament was served and the Spirit moved upon the people. The Navajo church members want the church, at Old Cedar, to be open more often for prayer meetings.
The work of the Lord goes on and will not be frustrated by the wiles of satan. The covenant people of the Lord are being brought to a knowledge of their forefathers and to the true relationship that they had with Christ. We as servants of Christ, need to pray continually for the Spirit to be with us as we minister to His people. We need the Spirit of God to be with us as we ponder the needs of His people and as we pray for them. It is God's Spirit that opens the doors, as we pray for the needs of His people, we are expected to take advantage of those openings, pass through that doorway to perform his work and a wonder. The enemy of God is working hard to discourage the Native American people and the work of the Gospel.
Pray that those missionaries who go among the Native Americans might be filled with the Spirit of God like a fire, that God's purposes in them might be fulfilled.
